George Striplin Family Farm, Illinois
Striplin Family Genealogy
Welcome to the "Striplin Family"
Genealogy website. Our family members have been working very
hard to try and piece together our family history. We welcome
your help in working with us to try and validate and build our
genealogical tree. Our 'Striplin" roots are linked to family
trees in Illinois, Tennessee, South Carolina and possibly Virginia.
One main variance in the spelling of our last name on numerous
historical documents has been "Stripling".
Some census reports spell our last name with the "g"
at the end while others (more recent) omit the "g"
at the end. We have recent family DNA evidence that supports
our family connection to the "Stribling" line of the
Carolina's and possibly Virginia.
Our family research group is still relatively small and it is
our hope that this website will allow us to meet other family
members and that they may be able to provide additional information/documents
that can help us locate our roots. We have been fairly successful
tracing our roots to Edward Striplin and his brothers (James,
Caswell, Toliver, Samuel, Alexander etc..). all of whom list
their place of birth as either Tennessee or South Carolina.
We have encountered significant difficulty in identifying their
parents; who they were? and where they came from?
Until recent, we had no clue as to who their parents were. However,
we have obtained a copy of Samuel Striplin's obituary which
states that his father's name was William Striplin (place of
birth TN) and his mother's name was Sarah (last name can not
be clearly read.. place of birth TN also). We have now been
searching in TN to try and create a connection. Although this
information is refreshing, there are some documents (censu reports)
that list the father's place of birth as South Carolina, not
TN. Samuel's 1911 obituary also cited that his grandfather fought
under General Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox)
and was captured and brutally killed with a broad ax during
the revolutionary war. A number of Striplin children were henceforth
been named "Francis Marion".
We still need a lot of help identifying more
information about the parents of Edward and his brothers. We
also need help in getting more information about the grandfather
who fought under Marion. We are basically genealogically stuck
around 1820 in definitively linking our roots to our ancestors.
The feature stories to the right contain documents/questions
